一八五一年，有覓小行星十五，多[[天文學符號|符]]之。符號愈繁，又需手繪，遂用數字、文字替之，又以覓日序之。迨小行星迅增之時，舊規乃修。
後從簡，列號，名隨之，若[[灶竈神星|(四) 灶竈神星]]，又有去括號四灶竈神星。別有獨列號者「四」、四，灶竈神星諸類，一九四九年，終紛亂也<ref>From [[James L.
